ENCOURAGING AGRICULTURE

AN ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP. Wellington, Sept. 10. To help Victoria College to obtain agricultural students Sir James Wilson has sent £1056 for the purpose of establishing an annual scholarship. This, Sir James explains in a letter to the council, consists of a sum which has been placed in his hands lor the furtherance of education. It would not be proper to name it' as coming from himself. The suggested scholarship should be named the Farmers’ Union scholarship. The power ofi administering the fund was left in the hands of the council. Sir James Wilson said he had received a letter from Mr Massey stating that the Government would supplement the amount by £lOOO. ’
