INDUSTRIOUS WIDOW.

NOT ENTITLED TO PENSION. Christchurch, Sept. 10. Mary Ann vasnmere, wiuuw, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with having by means or a false statement obtained a pension certificate to which she was not entitled. It was alleged that she had deirauded the Government of £7B. Chief Detective Gibson said the ac_ cused was a widow with four children and in 1922 she was granted a pension of £7B a year. She was then entitled to it. In August of that year she commenced worn at 9s a day and she failed to give a return of her earnings. The Magistrate said the woman appeared to tie of good character otnerwise and she would be admitted to probation for three years on condition that she repaid the £7B at the rate of five shillings per week.
