NAPIER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held last night. Present—Mr J. B, Andrew (May or), and Councillors W. .1. AlcGrath, .1 C. Bryant, J, Black, F. B. Rico, H. J. Harman, T. A. Heath, H. Al. Bennett, R. B. ('lark C. E. Crews and C. R. Spackman. Leave of absence was grant ed to Cr Smith. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the Napier Technical College Board wrote asking the Council to reconsider the charge made for the u.se of playing grounds on Nelson and McLean Parks for winter and summer sports, and suggested that tlje Coun cil should accept £l5. —It was agreed 1 j accept a rental of £l5. The Council agreed to contribute £lss towards the cost of building a reinforced concrete bridge on the Taradale-Nn pier road. In the event of the Main Highways Board assisting in the cost it was agreed that the payment by ihc Council should not be greater than that of the Hawke’s Bay County Council. GENERAL. The engineer was instructed to spen I £37 upon temporary repairs to the Irm; Pot Bridge. The Napier Thirty Thousand Club advised that Messrs W. P. Griffith an I 11. Latham had been appointed th:? club’s representatives iu connection with the celebration of the jubilee of the borough . The roads and reserves committee was instructed to receive a deputation from the Hawke’s Bay Rugby League to discuss the allocation of . winter sports grounds. Air application was made by the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union for the Council to erect thereo arc lights on the new grandstand to enable players to use the park at. night for practice. The Town Clerk said it woqld cost about £36 to erect the lights and the running cost W’ould be Is 7Ad an hour. It was decided that the lights be croc fed at the Union’s expense, the Union fo pay for current used. The tender of Messrs John Burns ami Ho. at £2709 10s lOd for the supply ot •ast iron pipes anil fittings for th(' 1 vatcr mains along Napier Terrace, was iccepted.
