MONTHLY MEETING. The Chamber met last night, Mr W. C. Whitlock (president) in> the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. The British Empire Exhibition authorities invited members coming to England to visit their office at the Exhibition, and avail themselves of the facilities offered.—Received. The' Shannon Chamber of Commerce asked support for a resolution urging that the main arterial road should take the most direct line from Wellington tf Palmerston North, and thus make Pal merston the junction for New Plymouth, Napier, Masterton and Te Kuiti. Tnere was a likelihood of the road deviating from Levin, via Foxton, on t« 1 New Plymouth and cutting out Palmers , ton, thus making the distance from Wellington to Palmerston and, East Coast ; towns much longer; and also of running , through a lot of poor and sparsely popu lated country, as far as Marton, a dis tance of 50 miles.—Letter received ( j writers to be informed that this dis trict was not concerned.
