'J'he Budget estimates for 1924 show a decrease in revenue of 129,000,000 , yen. and in expenditure of 104,000,000 , yen. The difference is made up by carrying forward 25,000,00 Q yen from this year/s estimates. Every depart- ! ment is reduced except education, which is increased 3,000,000 owing to th© school rebuilding programme. The greatest reduction, amounting to 4,000,GOO, is in Navy estimates, for which include 88,000,000 .yen for auxiliary vessels, 13,000,000 yen for land and water defences, and 2,000.000 yen for reconstruction of ships. The military estimates total 193.000,000 yon. which is a saving of 10,000,000 yen on preearthquake figures, by curtailment of the defence programme and general administration expenses. The foregoing does not include restoration expendi- ’ ture, which at present is undetermined. — (Reuter.)
