When the will of Cleveland Masterman, of South Shields, who died aged 83, leaving £134,000, was being proved, it was disclosed for the first time that deceased 37 years ago secretly married a woman who ever since was kfiown as Mastermans’ housekeeper. The London “Daily Express’s” Rome correspondent says ' Anthony Zanone, aged 63 years. a famous brigand, has been released under royal amnesty after spending 44 years in prison. He says he intends to start a new life with 700 lire which he saved out of his prison earnings. A lock-out in the Norwegian paper industry commenced to-day. Attempts by an official mediator to settle the conflict failed. Twenty-five thousand men are involved.. Three cases of anthrax are reported at Wollongong. Deceased had : most meagre education in a village school in Ireland, He became successively a footman. Life Guardsman, police constable, and publican.
