Mr. J. W. Macdonald. Public Trustee. and Mrs. Macdonald left by the Ulimaroa on a visit to Australia. Miss Lily Keith, of Hastings, left this morning for Wellington, where she will take up an appointment. The Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt left Hastings on his return to Palmerston North this morning. A cable from Berlin states that Dr. Wirth, a former Chancellor, is dying following an apoplectic seizure. Mr. George Hutton, of Napier, who has been on a short visit to Sydney, returned home last week, Mrs Johncock, Cameron road. Napier left by to-day’s mail train on a fortnight’s visit to Johnsonville. Mr. H. Hyland, of Messrs Massey, Hyland and Phillips, architects, arrived in Hastings by Saturday night’s express. Mr F. W. B. Graville, editor of the “Dairyman,” died yesterday at Wellington after a brief illness, aged 67, says a Press Association telegram. General Bramwell Booth, head of the Salvation Army, will pay a visit to New Zealand next year, arriving here on May 6. Mr G. Birnie, of the Hastings Post Office staff, accompanied by Mrs Birnie, left by the mail train for Auckland this morning on r- holiday. A London cable reports the death after an operation of Mr. Muhlhausen, owner of the yacht Amaryllis, whigh recently voyaged to Australia and back. Th© Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Mines, Marine, and Labour, leaves Wellington on Wednesday next for a visit to Auckland and th© Waikato district on business connected with his Departments. Mr Herrick well known in Napier musical circles, who has been transferred to Dunedin on promotion, was presented with a case of pipes by th© staff of Messrs Murray Roberts and Co., Ltd., on Saturday. Mr Tonkin left Napier this morning. Mr. P. McGregor, a veterinary surgeon recently brought to New Zealand from Great Britain by th© Government, will be stationed at Christchurch. The other veterinary surgeon. Mr. D. A. Gill, who came out with Air McGregor, will take up his headquarters in Palmerston North. Mr. Alex Harris. M.P. for Waitematta, was a passenger by the Marama on Friday. Mr. Harris is visiting England as a member of the Adviaorv Council appointed in connection with New Zealand representation of the British Empire Exhibition. Mr, Harris is chairman of the Industries and Commerce Committee of the House. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works and Railways and Post-inaster-General, returned to Wellington on Thursday evening from his tour of inspection of the South Island. Tomorrow Mr. Coates will leave on a visit t© the Hawke’s Bay district and will also proceed to Coromandel. Rotorua, and Kawhia. After Christmas he intends to visit the North Auckland district. Lieut.-Colonel W. A. Suttor, <f the Salvation Army, and with him three Indian officers (Lieut.-Col. Samara* veera Adjutant Santosham, and Captain Jaya Wansa), who arrived in the Dominion from India by the Niagara, at Auckland, reached Wellington on Friday. They will work their way north from Wellington, and then tour the South Island, giving descripti r e accounts of life in India. Miss Millie Tarrant was the recipient on Saturday last of a dainty gold pendant, a silver cruet and set of serviette rings from the staff of Messrs G. W. Venables Ltd., Napier, in view of her approaching marriage. Mr G. W, Venables in a happy speech, made the presentation, referring Io Miss Tarrant’s five years of service, and wished her much happiness in the future. Mr H. Templeton responded on Miss Tarrant’s behalf.
