Donald. L. ; Stein, D. Drummond, J. Holden, A. W. Cook, C, Pattison, J. A. Kerr, and ' J. Ramsden. 1 The district nurse at Porangahau, Miss Harris, tendered her resignation, and it was accepted. As the committee lias contributed only £6O out of the guarantee of £95. it was decided to discontinue the nurse unless the full amount were subscribed within a month. It was decided to spend £6O in get- J ting a set of radium applicatois brought up to their required strength. The applicators were originally presented to the Waipukurau Hospital, juid were sent to Melbourne over five years ago and had been • forgotten in the meantime. , It was decided to call tenders for reflooring the corridors and one room at the Waipukurau Hospital, and also to provide Tieating appliances for sterilising purposes at the same institution. | The .Medical Superintendent reported that the accommodation at the Waipukurau Hospital had been taxed to th© limit on many occasions during the month. The return of patients showed there were 63 under treatment on Noi vember 1. It was agreed to appoint a part-time masseuse to the Dannevirke Hospital, and. to call for applications for the

position. The Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board {submitted an account for £1484 8/2 up Ito September 30. The contra occount i of the AVaipawa Board was shown to he ! £lO6l 11/6, but it has not been brought : up to September 30. ■ Accounts amounting to £1482 8/10 . were passed for payment. I The secretary was authorised to write off outstanding patients’ fees amounting to £5841 19/ at Dannevirke and £3637 3/9 at Waipukurau, as recommended by the Department’s inspecting accountant for convenience of ; book-keeping A list has been preand the Finance Committee is to decide what action will be taken to collect the overdue fees. The. inspecting accountant reported adversely on the present system of dividing up th o secretaria" work between the secretary at Waipukurau and the assistant secretary at Dannevirke. Ho recommended that the whole of the accounts be kept at Waipukurau. and th© whole of the secretarial work centred in the Board’s office at Waipukurau.—Consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting. The inspecting accountant also reported that the concessions at present made to friendly societies was too liberal, and at least 4/6 per patient per day should be arranged for.—This matter was similarly deferred. The Director-General notified that the Board would bo allowed £1 weekly for the treatment of Alaori patients suffering from enteric, providing they were unable to pay. Notification was received from the Inspector-General of the discontinuance of half fees for treatment of friendly society patients at the Rotorua and Hamner Hospitals, and Hospital Boards would in future bo required to pay full fees qf 9/ per "diem for patients from their districts. Pressure is being brought to bear op Hospital Boards to take over these institutions and relieve the Government of them, was the comment of the chairman. It was reported that ordered for the Waipukurau and Dannevirke had arrived, and woul.d be installed by an expert.
