AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A meeting of the committee of the Hawke’s Bay Automobile Association was held in the Hawke’s Bay County Council’s room on Friday last.
The chairman reported that a member who had just returned from a visit to England had found the . privileges extended to him by the Automobile Union, London, very useful. Other members spoke of the benefit they had received and the hope was expressed that all members visiting the Homeland would apply to the secretary for a letter of introduction to the Automobile Union.
A letter was received from the Now Zealand Automobile Union, stating that efforts were being made to induce the Railway Department to remove hedges and trees which obstructed the view at level crossings. Several dangerous crossings in this district were named and the union will be asked to include them in the list they are about to submit to the department. Air. Keating drew attention to the dangers arising from cars coming down Harvey road and turning into Shakespeare road, and a sub-committee was set up to report on suggested improvements.
The neccessity of more danger signals on the Wairoa road and of renovating direction boards in various districts was discussed, and it was decided to have the matter attended to. As there are now a considerable number of timber lorries on tho Pohue road, adding materially to the danger at the many sharp bends, it was decided to ask the County Council to improve the visibility at ten corners.
A letter was received from the Thirty Thousand Club asking the association’s members to send decorated cars to the Alardi Gras. It is hoped members will respond to the request. Designs will be supplied on application to the secretary.
