THE TRENTHAM MEETING. RETURNED SOLDIERS’ COMPETITION. Trentham, March 7. When the Wellington Match was fired the scores of the teams of returned soldiers were taken for a special competition put on the pio?ramme this year for the first time. t was won by the combined team '(Guiney, Reston, Clayton. McKinley and Barkley), 409; Wellington Regiment No. 1, 405. 2; Canterbury Regi,inent, 397, 3; Rifie Brigade No. 1, 395, 4. Nine teams competed. HAWKE’S BAY’ MATCH. THE Trentham. Mtrch 7. A drizzle made visibility low when shooting commenced at the 900 yards range in the Hawke’s Bay match, the last qualifying round of the belt series. Wind was conspicuous by its absence at the start, but the light .was a trouble too great to be overcome by many of the men.. James and West, who were second and seventh last night, crashed badly, the latter disappearing out of the fifty, only getting 12 in this match. He started with six misses, then got three’s and two’s. Barkle has fallen from third place into the tail of the. procession. When the match was finished the winner turned up in Gillick (Kiwi) with 47. Ching (Karori) and Deller (Upper Hutt) were next. . C.
