TAURANGA BY-ELECTION.

LIBERAL-LABOUR CANDIDATE. SIR JOSEPH AYARD INVITED TO STAND. Wellington, March 5. Mr. T. M. Wilford, Leader of the Opposition, stated that he had been advised regarding a meeting of delegates of the Liberal-Labour party at Te Aroha to-night, that the meeting, which considered aspirants to the post of the party’s candidate for the Tauranga seat, was thoroughly representative, and was presided over by, Mr. R. J. King, who had been mentioned as a likelv candidate. The delegates unanimously and enthusiastically declared in favour of Sir Joseph Ward as the official candidate of the party. Sir Joseph Ward, when waited on, expressed gratitude at their good wishes and unanimous resolution. He promised to give his answer to-morrow (Tuesday) afternoon.
