EMPIRE SPORTS MEETING.
PROJECT FOR NEXT YEAR NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATION.
With the object of having New Zealand represented at the Empire sports gathering which is to be held in London in 1924 in connection with the Empire Exhibition, the Dominion Advisory Council of the exhibition has communicated with a number of sports bodies. Those approached were the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, New Zealand Boxing Council, New Zealand Rowing Association. New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. New Zealand Football Association, and the New Zealand Rugby Union. They have been asked to appoint representatives to attend a meeting to be held in Wellington to discuss th© matter. The proposal is that the Empire sports gathering should have a programme of events similar to that of the Olympic games. Probably, the date will be immediately after the Olympic games in Paris, so that competitors can first attend the world’s championship gathering. The huge stadium at the exhibition will accommodate 125,000 spectators, the sports section of the exhibition being catered for on a scale never before attempted.
