MAN WITH MANY ALIASES.

A young man named Archibald Andrew Charles Scott, with many aliases, including four detectives’ names and two of doctors, appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on fourteen charges of theft of clothing and jewellery, false pretences and assuming the designation of a police officer. Accused pleaded guilty to all counts. A detective explained that accused had come out of the reformatory at Inveroargill on November 18, arrived in Wellington on November 23, and obtained board and lodging at several seaside places under false pretences. Having secured the confidence of fellow lodgers, etc., he stole movable goods and decamped and aummed the designation of police officers and doctors to aid him in his plans for obtaining the confidence of people. lie was sentenced to six months’ hard labour, to be followed by a period of reformative detention for two years.
