MAORI IN TROUBLE.
THEFT O*L‘s NOTE. A young Maori, Poki Mohi. 22 years of age, was fined £2 and costs at th© Napier Magistrate’s Court this morning, by Messrs F. C. Williams and P. Wright, Justices of /he Peace, tor stealing £5 from Harry Oakley "Caulton at the Central Hotel on election night. Accused pleaded guilty. Seftior-Bergeant O’Halloran said that complainant went to stay at the Central Hotel -on election night, and was given a room occupied by accused and another Maori. He nung his tiGusers on the end of the bed, and sometime during th© night accused got out of hed and took the money. Accused was arrested later and admitted the theft. Accused was ordered to pay the fine in one week, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
