Giln.or© Smith, the returning officer, discharged his duties, not only in tn© ponduct of th© election in its various details, but also in his capacity of registrar. He was courteous, painstaking. ready with prompt information in reply to every interrogation regarding procedure, met enquirers without fuss, and gave those desiring it every facility to acquaint themselves, with the legal requirements, and all that with firmness and tact. His conduct of the plection was completely satisfactory, from every point <H view, and as one candidate’s secretary said, “I cannot say enough to express my high appreciation of his capacity, courtesy* and coolness in the midst of the turmoil SCRUTINY AND RECOUNT. This will easily occupy the entire day. mo that the official recount of the poll for th© candidates cannot take place before Tuesday, after which tne liquor referendum scrutiny and recount will have to be dealt with.
