Sydney, Dec. 9. M?mhers of the deck crew of the Moeraki resented the appearance of volunteers, and refused <luty. The company thereupon issued warrants for their arrest «nd they were sentenced to seven days’ hard labour. The company announced that the arrests would not affect the Railing of thp vessel, ns the, seamens’ places would he filled by volunteers. No efforts have been made to date to man tho/Unimi Company’s vessels trading to Tasmania with volunteer crews, as the company is not desirous of causing complications at Australian ports which would he lively if visited by non-union crews. The seamen’s Union notified all unions concerned in the shipping strike that it does not desire them to be involved in the dispute. Though only 36 stokers and dock hands were wanted for the Ulimaroa, over 300 applied.—■•(A. and N.Z.)
