A' telegram from Auckland states that Mr. John Edson, a resident for sixty-three years and a director of tho South British Insurance Company, died on Wednesday, aged eighty-five. He had beeq a trustee of the Auckland Savings Bank for over fifty years, and was also a prominent Methodist. Replying to a question by Mr. J. A. Young (Waikato), the Hon. W. Nosworthy (Minister for Agriculture) stated that his department waff arranging for a demonstration of the methods and utility of speying culled dairy rows, as desired by the Cambridge branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Last week (says the Clutha Leader) the South Otago Freezing Company took out of its freezing chambers taw carcases of calves that were slaughtered in 1915, and which have thus been in the chambers for seven years. The writer dined off a roast of this veal, and so from the “inside” knowledge thus gained can vouch fbr ttfe excellent quality of the meat, it being impossible to tell it from freshly-killed veal.
