HERETAUNGA ANGLER’S CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual general meeting of the Horetaunga Angler’s Club will be held at Hasting? on Thursday, 28th., when the following annual report and bal-ance-sheet will be submitted for the year ended 31st August, jp22:— Financial.—The receipts for the year were: Subscriptions £9 10s; entrance fees (cup) Ils; donations £6 16s 6d, added to balance from last year, £l2 13 s 7d; total £29 Ils Id. The expenditure amounted to £26 17s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £2 13s 6d, with £l3 still oufstanding for overdue subscriptions. McCormick Cup.—This competition was held on the 13th November and declared on the first outing, resulting in Mr. R. M’. Egan holding the cup for the year. In future it is proposed to hold one-day competitions only for this cup. This is considered to be more satisfactory and creates keener interest. Trout. —The Tuki Tuki' provided some hne sport, and showed marked improvement on the previous year’s fishing. The Ngaruroro in the lower reaches also provided some hne bags, but the Tutakuri produced the best fishing during the year, some fine fish running up to six and eight pounds being taken. The coming season promises well, there has been an entire absence of flood in all the local streams during the winter, and fish are reported plentiful in the Tutaekuri, Tuki Tuki and Waipawa rivers. Shags?—-These birds are still very numerous and are the angler’s chief enemy. Some effort should be made to destroy these birds during the next few months, and the Acclimatisation Societ?’ should take this matter up immediately. Ponds. —During the month we have liberated from the ponds into the various streams 72,000 yearling Rainbow trout. The ponds are now empty, having been scrubbed and cleaned ready for tho fresh supply pf fry for the coming season. It is the intention or the society to liberate in future brown trout only in the local streams m place of Rainbow, which seem to go to sea and a very large percentage do not of your committee and members are due to the following gentlemen for donations: Messrs T. Donovan, C. Golding R. M. Egan, A l. Rainbow, A. E. O’Meara, W. A. Whitlock, D. Balharry and T Pickett ; also Messrs Baker-Gabb, O Meara, Golding ■md the Tourist Motor Co. for use of ears and lorries for liberating filth from the ponds and all others who helped, and to Mr. Tom Shortt for his neverfailing kindness to the club.
