PROHIBITION IN U.S.A.
COST OF ENFORCEMENT. Washington, Sept. 25. The Treasury Department announces that 9,125,000 dollars will be asked from Congress for enforcement of pro-* hibition. Commissioner Hayne states that more money could be utilised in the suppression of marine smuggling of liquors, since the new Tariff Bill had a provision permitting the search of all vessels twelve miles from shore, but the administration's policy of economy restrains a request lor an increase in the appropriation. — (A. aud N.Z.)
