£3,200 OFFERED FOR A VOTE. AGAINST HIS PARTY. (Received 26. 11.0 a.m.) Brisbane. Sept. 26. Sloeman and Connolly were charged in tho Supreme Court with attempting to influence the vote of Bresnan. The hearing was adjourned and bail was allowed in a sum of £5OO. —(A. and N.Z.) [According to the evidence tendered in the Lower Court in the case against two journalists, John Sleenian and Edward Connolly, charged with attempting to bribe Mr. F. Brennan to vote against tlie parfy Mr. Brennan arranged for two detectives fb meet him at an hotel, and after conversing witn Sleeman and ConnoHy Mr. Brennan called the detectives and told them he had been offered £3,20(f to vote against the Government. Mr. Brennan added that he wanted to have nothing to do with it, but asked the detectives to take Sleeman and Conti oilV to the detective office and see if they had the money upon them. When searched fifleeman was found to be in possession of £3OOO worth of bearer Treasury bonds ahd Connolly had £2OO in bank notes. They were committed for trial.]
