SUBSTANTIALLY FINED. Wellington, Sept. 23. At a sequel to the recent raid, George Phillips, Janies Fauchelle. tobacconists of Lower Hutt; Fritz Hugo Dolling, late steward of the Petone Working Men’s Club, now a tobacconist of Petone ; Robert Henry Jones, of Petone, ex-railway, workshop employee. and James Reddett. barman of Petone, were charged at Petone with keeping a common gaming house. Phillips and Fauchelle pleaded guilty and were fined £75. Reddett and Jones pleaded guilty and were fined £5O. Dolling pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given of bets made with Dolling on »vdiose premises a soundproof telephone booth was installed.—Mr. Hunt, S.M., reserved his decision. The charge against Wereta Jones with being found on the premises of one of accused, was dismissed, there being no evidence of hrs being present for an unlawful purpose. In the case against Ernest Henry Gardiner, charged with frequenting Jackson street for the purpose of betting, the magistrate reserved Jus decision. ..
