WEEKLY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE AIEETING. Th© management committee of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union held its weekly meeting last evening, when there were present Messrs J. T. Al. Piki (chairman), W. Anderson, H. Seed. H. Newton, A. Vv. H. King, P. Afartin-Smith, C. S. Findlay, N. AlcKenzie, A. Alderman, H. Brown, R M. Hewitt and J. Al. Brown (secretary). Air. W. J. McGrath was granted leave of absence. LANE CUP. Tho Napier Borough Council advised that McLean Park was not available for the use of the Union on September 30 th. As this affected the Lane Cup match between Pirates and Hastings it was suggested that the match should he played at Hastings. Air. Seed stated that tho Pirates Club considered that the match should be played at Napier and they did not wish to go to Hastings. At present, he said, Pirates held the cup and he had been instructed io slate that Pirates would not play away from their own ground. In view of this it was decided that . the match be abandoned and an at- > tempt made to obtain a copy of the Lane Cup rules. The cup will be called in. SELECTING REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS The Waipawa Sub-Union protested against the method adopted by the union in selecting the B representative team and also the junior representatives and stated that there were players in that district who should have been considered in the selections. 1 The Union decided to reply that 1 both teams were only Napier-Hastings 5 teams, and owing to financial reasons i it was not possible to select representative teams of the province. ‘ GRANT DECLINED. The Southland Rugby Union advised ’ that it could not see its way clear to • make a grant out of its gat© in the ■ recent Hawke’s Bay v. Southland 1 match owing to i’uture financial obh--1 gations* in front of the Union. South- ' land informed the committee that . should Hawke’s Bay travel south in 1921 an application for a part of tho r gate would be favourably considered. RANSOM CUI’ COMPETITION. I The Waipawa District High School protested against the grading of teams in the Ransom Cup competition, pointing out that it was not right l ‘ that the Dannevirke High School first 1 fifteen which played the second fif- ■ teens of the Napier High School and ; Te Ante in the Secondary Schools Cup should also be allowed to play the r third fifteens of the same schools in the Ransom Cup competition. The committee decided to reply that it had no jurisdiction over the cup, I which was run from the Dannevirke Suh-Union. ' The Union decided io inform tho 1 Dannevirke Sub-Union that it was of 1 the opinion that the grading of teams • in the northern end of the Ransom - Cup competition was unfair. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. J Air McKenzie reported that the subcommittee appointed to arrange details for the seven-a-side tournament ‘ on October 7th had and had pre- ' pared a circular dividing the tourna- . ment into two grades, senior and junior and third and fourth teams. These circulars had been sent out to clubs as far south as Wellington and » to AVairoa in the north. Already a . certain amount of enthusiasm was , notictable among the clubs and everything pointed to a successful tournament. Gold medals. Air. AfcKenzie ‘ stated, would be presented to the win- ‘ ning teams.
