LOCAL BODIES’ DISTRIBUTING RIGHTS. (Special to “Tribune.”) Wellington, Sept. 22. Anxiety has been expressed by some local bodies owing to the fact that they have not received invitations to attend the Power Board conference to be held in Wellington on 27th September. They are afraid their existing rights to distribute electricity in their own districts may be infringed by the decisions of the conference. The Minister for Public Works informed Mr. Young (Waikato) in the House last night that there is no intention of interfering with the local authorities which already have licenses. Mr. Young: The Power Boards may possibly conflict with local authorities. Mr. Coates: That is so. There may possibly, be conflict for the moment. The object of the conference is to discuss matters which affect Power Board administration. Those local authorities which control the distribution of electricity in their own district will not be affected by any change in the law without first being notified. Mr. Young: It is not contemplated to change the law? Hon. J. G. Coates: Not without their a ppro v a 1.
