PARKVALE PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY.

A meeting of the executive of the above society was held on Monday evening, Mr R. Paynter, in the unavoidable absence of Mr Gilbert McKay, presiding. Mr Garry reported that tree planting along Park road, the approach to Beatson’s Park, had been arranged with the Borough Council, but that no stakes had been provided. It was decided to ask for trees to be staked. Mr Caiman reported on the location and number of the street lights between Sylvan and Sei wood roads, and drew attention to oue dangerous uniighted spot between Alexandra and Albert street. Mr Caiman was asked to prepare a comprehensive report for the next meeting for further submission to the Borough Council. The secretary having received a communication from the town clerk expressing the willingness of the Reserves Committee to meet the executive of the society re the improvement of Beatson’s Park, plans for its beautification were discussed. Mr Garry submitted a scheme which, with other suggestions, wiii be laid before the Reserves Committee on Wednesday evening. Attention was also drawn to the inside area of the new concreted footpaths. tn places this had been left in a very uneven condition. Mr Garry was deputed to bring it under the notice of those in charge of this work. Mr Paynter brought forward a suggestion that the rules of the society should bo printed in booklet form, and used as a card of membership. He was asked to confer with the secretary and given power to act in the matter. Five new members had joined the society since last meeting, and the interest was reported to be spreading through the district.
