NAPIER HIDE SHEEPSKINS, AND ODDMENT SALE. The monthly sale of sheepskins, hides and oddments was held yesterday, the usual buyers being in attendance. Good hides, if anything, were easier than last sale, medium and heavy ox showing a slight decline. Oow hides were on a par with last sale, whilst calf-skins were down 2d per lb. Country hides sold at satisfactory prices. The bidding for sheepskins was erratic, but prices were well maintained, and on the average a slight increase on last sales prices was shown. Bag wool, as usual.sold well. Tallow was easier, flic bulk of the offering being handed in. Sheepskins.—-Halfbred, half to fullwool 6pl to 7|d, short to full-wool sjd; three-quarter-bred. 4 l-4d to 7d and and 3 3-Id to ; crossbred. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 16th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London :— MEAT. Market remains firm for mutton and lamb. Beef market steady. N.Z. mutton.—Light weight 7 l-4d to Bd. medium 6 3-ld to 7 1 -4d, heavy weight 6<l to 6 3-4 d; ewes, 5d to 6d. N.Z. lamb.—Best quality, light weight 11 3-ld to I/, medium to 11 3-4 d. heavy weight lOd to 10}d ordinary lljd, second class quality lljd. N.Z. beef.—-Ox hinds 4 7-Bd, fores 3 l-4d. Chilled beef.—Hinds Bd, fores 4d. BUTTER. Demand has fallen off considerably, but holders are firm, and prices have advanced slightly. Official quotations are:— New Zealand.—Salted, 214/ to 218/ per cwt.; unsalted, 224/ per cwt. Australian.—Salted, 204/ to 208/ per cwt.; unsalted, 212/ to 216/ per cwt. Argentine.—Salted, 204/ to 212/ per cwt. Irish.—Salted, 198/ to 204/ per cwt.; unsalted, 212/ to 216/ per cwt. Danish.—Small business doing at 225/ to 227/ per cwt. French.—2l6/ to 226/ per cwt. Canadian.—>2oo/ to 204/ per cwt. CHEESE. Market quiet but steady. Official quotations are:— English.—Finest farmers’, 108/ to 112/ per cwt. < anadian.—Coloured. 88/ to 92/ per cwt.; white. 88/ to 94/ per cwt. New Zealand.—Coloured, 88/ to 90/ per cwt.; white, 90/ to 94/ per cwt. Stocks of New Zealand cheese on hand at the Surrey Commercial Dock on September 15 was 150 crates against 4793 crates on same date last year. The s.s. Maiinoa is discharging New Zealand produce this week. WOOL. Sales closed on Friday. The attendance was good throughout and competition strong, specially from Home trade, with good support from the Continent. though Germany bought less than usual. Merino offerings were relatively small, and met with strong demand, closing about 5 per cent, to 10 per cent above last sales’ rates. Fino crossbred also hardened, closing about 5 per cent, to 7j per cent, dearer. Medium crossbred occasionally in special demand up to 10 per tent, higher, closed generally par to 5 per cent, dearer.. Coarse crossbred generally showing no change. Slipe in strong request for blanket trade, and with scoured closed about 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, dearer. Average closing prices are:—6o-64’s (merino) 1/4 to 2/1, 56’s (super halfbred) 1/3 to 1/8. 50’s (halfbred) lOd to I 48’s (fine crossbred) 9Jd to lOjd, 44-46’s (medium crossbred) 7d to BJd, 36-40’s (coarse crossbred) 6|d to 7jd. The, total offerings consisted of 128,000 bales, of which 105,000 colonial and 12,000 South American were sold. Continental buyers took 42,000 and American buyers 3000 bales. The next London series commences on October 10.
