TEACHING IN UNIVERSITY. PROPOSAL FOR LECTURESHIP. The views of the Auckland Agricultural Education Committee in regard to the establishment of a lectureship at the Auckland University College were placed before the Professorial Board of the University College on Friday by a deputation from the committee. Mr. F. R. Callaghan mentioned that although agriculture had recently been included in the list of pass subjects for the B.A. degree, no provision had yet been made for teaching the subject at any of the university colleges, and in consequence it was likely to remain a dead letter. The extension of agricultural tuition in secondary and primary schools and among farmers had been handicapped by a lack of trained teachers and instructors and the establishment of a lectureship would go far to overcome the difficultv. Mr. T. H. Patterson outlined the progressive policy which was being adopted in agricultural education matters in New South Wales, and the indications were plain that the farmers were more and more calling out for the assistance that trained scientific men alone could give them. The proposal was also supported hv Messrs R. W. Roche and F. Carr RoL lett. After the matter had been considered it was unanimously resolved to support the recommendation? of the deputation, namely, that steps he taken to establish a lectureship. This proposal will bo brought before the University College Council at an early date.
