NAPIER MARDI GRAS.

A preliminary meeting of those interested in running the Napier Christmas Mardi Gras was held last evening. There was a good attendance, over which Mr. Harvey presided. It was decided to proceed with arrangements as usual, and to endeavour to put forward a lot of new “stunts.” During the course of a lengthy discussion the following items for the festivities were mentioned: A queen elecion or in the alternative a beauty competition, procession, boxing tournament (open air), tug-of-war, fancy dress cricket match, baby show, clay bird shooting, the visit of a seaplane, and rowing regatta. Mr. Latham said preparations should be commenced immediately for the procession, which was the biggest thing of all. Mr. Woodcock suggested that a queen competition if held should not be confined to a local “stunt” but should be made Dominion wide, and that a first prize such as a trip to England should be offered. Mr. R. C. Wright suggested that something big should bo aimed at on the parade, such as a water-shoot. It was decided that the executive meet other bodies and report.
