Then he won the 15th, 16th and lost the 10th. The afternoon round remained one up till the 26th, when Horton, with a marvellous second, lipped the hole and eventual! v won the ( hole. 3—5, making 2 up. Ho won the 27th. 4—5, and was 3 up on the 28th. He halved the 29th. Bidwell, on the green, with his second shot, putted badly. Four up The 30th was finished 3—4. The match was intensely interesting and sporting throughout and the most friendly game yet. Bidwell is a great sporting player. The professionals. Ham and Blair, were all square at the end of the morning round. Shaw was 3 up on Butters, the former Joiner the round in 77. ]n the afternoon Ham won. 7 ud and 6 to play, the quality of Ham’s piay being shown by the fact that he did 12 holes in 47. Shaw won, 5 up and 4 to play on Butters. Shaw was driving better than in the morning. Keen interest is being taaen in the final to-morrow. Windless weather made ideal golf conditions. The course is good except tne rough greens. Occasionally Duncan was undoubtedly right back to form. His long putts were splendid, and he was not missing many short ones. Horton made some great shots It was only a question of stamina in the trial. The opinion is that Duncan inay win 4 and 3. Others believe the match will go right to the 36th hole. Sime, the previous champion, was outclassed this afternoon, yet it wa? * good performance. There were 200 spectators. Bidwell was not so cool as before, still Horton was too solid for him. Great interest is being taken In a match arranged for the week-end between the ten leading lady players of the Dominion and leading amateurs at the present tournament. Although similar matches have been played in England it is an innovation in New Zealand golf and from the fact that the ladies’ championship is being played at Wanganui next week it has been found possible to get the very best players on each side. 36 HOLES MATCH. (Special to Tribune.”) Palmerston N., Sept. 15. In the semi-final round of 36 holes the results are:— 18th hole. Duncan 6 up on Sime. 73. There was some phenohienal play. Sime is still confident.
