Y.M.C.A. LECTURE.
P. W. PETERS ON AMERICA. Mr. P. \V. Peters, of Napier, gave a most interesting lecture on Wednesday evening in the Hastings Y.M.C.A. lie graphically described Jiis experiences and impressions gathered during a recent trip to America and Canada. His narrative was delivered in a tree ami easy style which kept the personal attention of his audience with him throughout. The illustrations, produced very largely from the lecturer’s own snapshots, greatly enhanced the value and interest of the evening. A brief summary of Mr. Peters’ address would be unfair to him. He has acquired the American habit of “going some,” so far as speaking is concrned at any rate. He packed into his speech valuable information in addition to supplying many a humorous anecdote from a personal experience. San Francisco’s Japanese problem, the stupendous business of manufacturing American citizens, the wonderful hydro-electric schemes undertaken by private enterprise, the cost of living and tlie price of labour were seriously reviewed. Mr. Peters evidently wasted no opportunity to accumulate first-hand information and he has returned to New Zealand with a greater belief in the possibilities of “God’s Own Country” from every point of view. The next lecture of the series will be given by Mr. A. R. Don upon “Musical Composition” on Tuesday evening next. Particulars will be advertised later.
