CENTRAL POWER BOARD. (Own Correspondent.) The Provisional Committee of the proposed Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board held a meeting in the Borough Chambers yesterday. There were present Messrs E. A. Goodgcr (chairman), A. C. Russell, T. Butler ami F. J. With crow. Mr Sparge, writing on behalf of the Otanc Town Board, asked whether that body would be permitted to cleet one member. In reference to this a reply was forwarded stating that the position was that the Patangata County Council would have the right to appoint three members to the board. Otanc being a portion of the Patangata County will have the right to nominate any members it desires for the vacant positions. The reply which as sent by the secretary (Mr Fowler) was approved. A letter was received from the Un-der-Secretary of Public Works calling a conference of the Power Boards. The Mayor said that this would be n fairly important conference, and ht thought that the board should be represented. Delegates there w’ould be likely to gain a lot of useful information. This view was supported by Air Witherow who thought that the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board wad likely to be thought more important in Wellington than say Napier. The Central Pow’er Board should keep its end up. He moved that Mr Goodger be appointed to attend rhe conference. This was carried. The Mayor expressed his gratification that a delegate had been appointed as that matter was a most important one. The H.B. County Council clerk (Air A. H. Ferguson) wrote forwarding a resolution passed by the council at its meeting on July 11th as follows:— “That the council ask the local bodies in Northern Hawke’s Bay to prepare an estimate of what electric current they may approximately require, say in three years from nbw r . That when these figures are available a deputation be arranged to submit them to the Government with a request that an understanding be given when such current will be supplied from Waikaremoana.” —lt was decided to reply that Central Hawke’s Bay would require a thousand horse-power in three years. The Mayor asked whether he should represent the board on the deputation to the Minister regarding Waikaremoana.—Air Witherow thought that Air Goodgcr should. It whs a good idea, and he moved in that direction. There would be no harm done, and it showed that they were alive. This was seconded by Air Russell and carried. The Al ay or said that he would write a report as to wh it occurred at the conference ami nt the deputation, and he would send one to each member of the provisional committee. CHAMBER OF COAIMERCE. A meeting of the committee of the Chamber of Commerce was hold in the Social Hall last evening, Air E. A. Goodger being in the chair. There were also present: Messrs A. White, B. Mathieson„ F. Staines, J. G. Clarkson, S. F. Brandon and J. J. East (secretary). Progress reports in connection with the acquisition of the Alount Herbert Reserve, and the proposed new stock road were received. Air Goodger submitted a scheme—the erection of a paddling pool—on the river bank adjacent to Russell Park. The chamber decided to give its hearty support to the scheme ami will endeavour to raise funds for the object. Air White mentioned that no mails were carried on the 6.30 a.m. mail south, and it was impossible for mail matter to get through to Taranaki in one day if this policy was persisted in. Ho suggested that the Postmaster-General be written to pointing out the inconvenience, and that the co-operation of the Hawke’s Bay, Dannevirke and Hastings Chambers be sought to improve the existing facilities. Air C. F. Spooner, of Palmerston N., kindly offered to give a lecture of interest to business people during October and it was decided to invite him to be present at the annual meeting to be held on October 9th. AIETHODIST CHURCH HALL. The question of the disposal of a qunrtcr-acre section of land belonging to the Patangata County Council to the Alethodist authorities came before the lueeing of the Patangata body yesterday. A letter was received from Air W. S. Neal, stating that the Waipukurau Alethodist Trust Board were willing to purchase the J-acre section owned by the council on Wellington road, together with the building thereon for the sum of £3OO. Air Neal stated that the Trust had authorised him to pay a deposit of £lO. They were not in a position to pay the balance at present, and asked the council to give them possession, and allow them six month? to pay the balance of £290. Tho Trust would then convert the building into a church hall.—lt was decided that the council retain possession until December next, and that interest be charged upon the £290. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. In the Alagistrate’s Court. J. Mullins proceeded against E. AL AlcLeod, for £5 10s, value of a sheep destroyed and general damages. Plaintiff alleged that the sheep had been destroyed by defendant’s clog. The defence was that the sheep could not have been worried by defendant’s dog as the sheep in question was dead before the cate on which it was alleged to have been worried. There was a counter-claim by defendant for £2 for wrongful detention of the dog. The magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for £5 10s ami costs, for AlcLeod on the counter-claim for £1 and costs £3 12s. Air C. G. Harker appeared for plaintiff and Air D. B. Kent for defendant.
