RED CROSS SOCIETY.

COMMITTEE FORMED IN WaL PAWA. (Own Correspondent.) Dr. E. M. L. Morgan addressed a fair attendance at the Waipawa Theatre on Tuesday in connection with the campaign to organise peace time activities of the Red Cross Society. Dr. Morgan gave a very interesting and lucid address, reviewing the activities of the society since its inception in 1859. He paid a tribute to the excellent work done by the ladies’ committee. who organised the periodical visits to the Pukeora Sanatorium, and it was resolved to appoint the same committee, with others present, as the local branch of the Red Cross Society. Mr. D. P. McLean was appointed secretary and treasurer pro tern. Dr. Si organ, in acknowledging a vote of thanks, expressed his appreciation of the interest shown in the movement in Waipawa. which had the proud distinction of being the only centre to commence business straight away. TEMPERANCE LECTURE. A fair attendance was present at the lecture given by Mrs. Don, the New Zealand W.C.T.U. president, in the Concert Hall of the Municipal Theatre, on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Don, who is a forcible speaker, gave an interesting address on matters connected with the Prohibition movement. WAIPAWA SAVAGE CLUB. Six car loads of members of the Waipawa Savage Club visited Napier on Tuesday night and entertained the Napier Hapu with a concert, and the Napier Savages were delighted with the bill of fare, and pronounced it as the most enjoyable function they had experienced during the whole of the season. The talent shown by the visitors was a revelation to the Hapu and a source of joy. The Napier Savages return the compliment by giving an entertainment at Waipawa early in October. The Waipawa Savages are giving an entertainment locally on October 5 in aid of the Bowling Club, and have received an invitation to give an entertainment at Ormondville at an early date. GENERAL. Mr. McGregor manager of the local branch of Hallenstein Bros., received word on Tuesday of the death of his father in Marton. Sir George Hunter paid a visit to Waipawa on Wednesday. A “paddy’s market” during the day and a concert in the evening is being held in the Concert Hall to-day in aid of St. Patrick’s Church funds. The football season closes here on Saturday with a 7-aside tournament for the Wills Cup.
