FOR OVERSEAS MARKETS. FACTORIES FAVOUR POOL AND ASK FOR LEGISLATION. [Per Press Association.] ~ Wellington, Sept. 1. At a representative meeting of delegates from dairy factories all over the Dominion held in Wellington to-day a resolution was passed hy 137 to 20 asking the Government to pass legislation for the control of exportable dairy produce on the lines of the Meat Control Act. Mr Arthur Morton chairman of tin. National Dairy Association, presided. The Hon. W. Nosworthy. Minister o Agriculture, said the Government would he whole-heartedly with the dairy industry in trying to improve their position. He advised them to take time by the forelock and put them house In order and on behalf of the. Government wished them well in their deliberations, and if thev were anything like unanimous the Government would do what it could to assist ’’’ out their reasonable view’s. There was a general expression of opinion throughout the meeting in favour of the scheme, one or two dissenters from the South Inland urging the meeting 1.0 consider whether it was advisable to give such a board a blank cheque on the subject of the compulsory clause. Mr. D. Jones, chairman of the Meat Control Board, said that while thev could put the compulsory clause of the Act Into operation at once they had to get the consent of the Minister before they could enforce the penalty. The resolution, which was proposed by Mr. J. Corrigan (Hawera - ) anrt sm onded by Kfr. T. Booth (Cante: bury), was: “Present methods of dealingwith dairy produce being i. «satisfactory and not in the best interests of the producers of the Dominion, this meeting, representative of the dairy producers of the Dominion, is of i opinion that some measure of control i that will co-ordinate shipping and marketing is desirable, and asks the Government to promote legislation giving a measure of control after the nature of the Meat Control Act.” A committee of 30 members, 20 for the North Island and 10 for the South Island, was then elected as follows: — Messrs W. Grounds (Hokianga), E. R. Harding (Northern Wairoa), Stanton (Taiimarunui), Wills R. Somerville (Te Kuiti), W. Goodfellow C. Motion (Waiuku). G. Buchanan (Paeroa), McMillan (Tannin ga). .1. Gilden (Dannevirke), ,S. Bowman (Dunedin), A. P. Fleming (Ohukai), W. Bryant (Ohukai), C. P. Agar (Christchurch). J. R Thacker (O’Kain’s Bay), A. Gould (Milford, via Temuka). T. R. Fades (Edendale), T Buckingham (Drummond), J. S. Grieve (Waiauwa), John Dunlop (Seaward Downs). Morton, Forsyth. Corrigan, Connett and Wing (Taranaki), Broadl>elt. Irons. Ewington, Moss and MoManaway (Wellington). It was resolved that a deputation should wait upon the Government to urge the passing of the necessary legislation before the close of the session.
