DIOCESAN SYNOD.
CONCLUDING SESSION. Synod resumed its session at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The reports were read (1) of the Sessional Committee on Assessments and (2) the Supplementary report on the Church Gazette. The Synod went into committee on returns and accounts Banns of Marriage—The committee’s suggestions were adopted requiring applicants for marriage after banns to answer the same questions as to affinity, etc., as are asked of applicants for the bishop’s license, anti adding a question to l»e asked of applicants as to whether they have been baptised. Spiritual Healing.—The Bishop was asked to appoint a commission to continue the work of the Committee on Spiritual Healing and report to head session of Synod. Sunday Schools.—The Rey. F. B. Redgrave’s motion urging the early appointment of a Diocesan Organiser for Sunday Schools was discussed. The Bishop spoke very highly of the qualifiseations of a lady who had been appointed for this work two years ago, but whose appointment had been subseauently cancelled owing to the financial crisis. He hoped still to be able to secure her services. The Standing Committee were asked to devise some method of finding the necessary funds. Church Gazette —A debate took place on the recommendations of the Sessional Committee on the Church Gazette. The proposal to assess parishes for the support of the Gazette was defeated. It was ,decided to ask the Standing Committee to appoint a subcommittee to assist the editor. The Rev. Canon Butterfield was reappointed editor for the ensuing year. The financial arrangements of tlie Gazette are to remain in the hands of the Diocesan Office. It was reported that the lay members of th© Synod had decided at their conference to do all in their power to increase the circulation m their various districts. t . Boundaries Commission. —Mitli the concurrence of Synod the Bishop appointed as a commission on boundaries Messrs W. G. Sherratt. Colonel Ward. G H Hathaway. G. C. Williams and J.’ H. Kibblewhite, with power to add to their number. Board of Nomination. —The following were elected: Archdeacon Williams. Archdeacon Simkin and Messrs Turner Williams and G. C. Williams. General.—lt was decided that the financial rear for all Maori districts end on December 31st. The schedule of assessments for the Pension Fund and Widows’ and Orphans’ Fund was considered and passed. Votes of thanks were accorded to the residents of Napier for their hospitality and to the secretaries of the Synod.
