CATHOLIC BALL.
SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL FUNCTION. The hall organised for th© benefit of the Hastings Catholic Schools eventuated in the Municipal Assembly Hall last evening, and the organisers have every reason to congratulate themselves on the undoubted success of the gathering, which was of an exceedingly social character. .Some 200 couples occupied the beautifully polished floor, and danced merrily all night to the excellent music played by the Hinemoa Orchestra. Messrs H Poppelwell and D. Maggin, assisted hy Messrs T. Aldridge and O. McCarthy, carried out th© duties of M.C.’s with capability and tact, and under their direction the large assemblage enjoyed themselves to their heart’s content. The supper ai rangements were perfect in every detail under the supervision of Mesdames Long. Flynn. Fitzwilliams. Beamish, Horton and Henderson, who were unremitting in their attention to the requirements of the large number that sat down to the prettily-decorated tables. During the interval for refection, Mrs S. G. Poppelwell. Misses Pothan,Sturrock and Beamish and Messrs Phil Walden (piano) and J. Hogan (violin) played extra waltzes, and one of the most enjoyable dances of the season came to a conclusion shortly after one o’clock. The school s fund will benefit verv materially as the result of the ball, th© organisation of which was in the hajids of Mesdames Long and Flynn, assistedT»v Mesdames Fitzwilliams. Beamish. Horton and Henderson with' a strong executive who should all feel very satisfied with the outcome of their devoted endeavours.
