AMERICA’S WOODEN SHIPS.
750,000 DOLLARS FOR THE LOT. Washington, Sept. 12. The Shipping Board has disposed of what has long been considered a white elephant on the Government’s hands. The board has sold 226 wooden vessels built during, the war to a private concern for 750,000 dollars for the lot. They had cost 700,000 dollars each, having been constructed hurriedly to rush shipments of troops and supplies to Europe when the United States entered the war.—(A. and N.Z.)
