TONGARIRO TIMBER COMPANY.
SYNDICATE FOR RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION. Auckland, Sept. 12. Cabled advice has been received by the Tongariro Timber Company from Mr. Atkinson, representing the company in London, that a syndicate has been formed in England to raise and administer funds for constructing the railway line from Kakalii, on the Main Trunk line, to Taupo, a distance of about 40 miles. The company paid £6OOO through the Aotea Maori Land Board to the Maoris interested in June, and a further sum of £29,000 has been paid this month, making a total of £36,000. This is the full sum that the Maoris are entitled to receive up to the present.
