WAIAPU DIOCESAN SYNOD.
The Waiapu Dicesan Synod resumed at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. A motion by Archdeacon Chatterton ‘ ‘ That the Board of Nomination consist of two clerical and two lay members” was carried. A motion was carried instructing the Standing Committee to consider the whole question of fire insurance of all church buildings and their contents. The election of Standing Committee resulted as follows:—Clercial members: Ven. Archdeacon Simkin, the Very Rev. the Dean, Rev F. W. Bennett, Ven. Archdeacon Williams, .Canon Butterfield, and the Rev F. B. Redgrave. Lay members: Messrs H. IJ. Bull, T. Ellery, J. H. Kibblewhite, A. G. Pallot, R. E. H Pilson, A. E. Turner Williams, F. W. Williams. The following were nominated as members of the Board of Nomination: —Clerical: Rev. A. Ncild, Ven. Archdeacon Williams, the Very Rev. the iDean, Ven. Archdeacon Simkin, Rev. •jF. W. Bennett, Rev. Canon Rice, Rev. Canon Maclean, the Rev. T. Fisher. .Lay: Messrs A. E. Turner, Williams, ’H. J. Bull, R. Gardiner, G. C. Williams. From these two clergymen and Hwo laymen are to be elected to-day as members of the Board. The second reading of the bill to reduce the number of lay representatives on 'General Synod from four to three was lost. | ; * |J] The third reading of the Jjill amending and codifying canons and statutes was passed. The report of the committee appointed to investigate the subject of -spiritual healing was read. It is to jbe printed. ' The report on the Church Gazette - was considered in committee and referred back to the committee for practical suggestion. A- motion was carried: “That this / Synod places on record the valuable services rendered in this diocese by the Rev. G. N. Watson and that a letter be sent him conveying our appreciation of the same.” 4 * : The report of the Select Committee on regulations for * the guidance of •churchwardens and vestrymen was considered ,and the proposed regulations were adopted with some amendments. The report of a select committee on the publication of banns of marriage was read. NOTICES OF MOTION. 1. Rev. G. D. Wilson to move:— That it be a recommendation to Standing Committee that steps be taken to set the Maori" returns before JSynoil by means of a report from the Diocesan Office, and not by reports from the ’Superintendents of the Maori Districts. 2. Rev. G| D| Wilson to move:— That it be a recommendation to Standing Committe that this diocese bring its returns into lino with the form set for th by General Synod, but that communicants’ rolls and churchings be retained in the Diocesan Form. 3. Archdeacon Williams t‘o move; — That the regulations recommended by the Select Committee on Banns be approved by the Synod. 4. Canon A. F. Williams to move:— That ihe Committee on Spiritual Healing be reappointed to continue its work and report again. 5. The Rev. F. B. Redgrave to move: —That it is desirable that a Sundayschool organiser for the Diocese be appointed as soon as possible. 6. Mrs Hora Munro to move:—That this Synod is of opinion that the only immediate available remedy for the evils resulting from the liquor traffic is to vote for its prohibition at the coming poll, since there is general dissatisfaction with the present system, and no possibility of carrying any other vital reform for many years to come. 7. Rev. G. W. Wilson to move:—That the Synod go into committee to consider the report of the Sessional Committee on accounts and returns. 8. Archdeacon Williams to move:— ■*That the number of lay members for each Native Church Board District be two. 9. Mr A. E. Turner Williams to movtf: —That the regulations for the guidance of churchwardens and vestrymen as passed by the Synod bo printed in pamphlet form for distribution to all churchwardens and vestrymen.
