(Own Correspondent.) The series of dances in support of the various queen candidates in connection with the bazaar for the local school culminated in a most successful plain and fancy dress dance in the Hall cn Friday last. The Hall was crowded with dancers and presented a gay scene. The dance music was played by a combined orchestra from Waipukurau, led by Mr C. F. Haycock and Mr K. McKenzie (piano), supported by Messrs W. Penny and C. Maloney (violin), and S. Annand (cornet), who gave their services free. Songs and recitations were given during the evening. Songs by Mr Vai Jones, Wellington ,and Mrs F. Minto, Patangata, and recitations by Mrs Pullan, Elsthorpe, all of which were heartily encored. There were weight guessing competitions, and prizes for waltzing, and for fancy dresses to those under 16 . The latter was won by Misses Beachen, and Elsie Cheer, for the girls, and H. Beachen and R. Leyland for the boys. Produce and other articles were sold, and the sum realised during the evening was over £25.
