POSTAL WORKERS STRIKE. AGAINST WAGES REDUCTION. (Received 12, 10.5 a.m.) London, Sept. 11. Telegraphic commuuication between London and the Free State is entirely suspended, in consequence of the strike of all postal workers, which was begun on Sunday night following the Government’s withdrawal of the special cost-of-living bonus.—(A. and N.Z.) The Irish postal employees struck after rejecting the Government’s offer to spread reductions fti wages over three monthA. In a manifesto the Government denies the right of civil servants to strike and says picketing will not be allowed as in the case of industrial disputes. The Government will use all its forces to prevent the intimidation of loyal officials.—(Reuter). The Irish Free State Government has abolished the press censorship.— (A.. and N.Z.)
REBEL LEADER ESCAPES. London. Sept. 10. A prominent leader of the Irish Irregulars, Tom Barry, who attempted to enter the Four Courts disguised as a nurse during the fighting in Dublin, escaped from Germanstown prison by dimming over a wire entangleinent.(Reuter).
THE MOREE MURDER. ACCUSED ACQUITTED. ON GROUNDS OF INSANITY l2, 10.35 a.m.) Sydney, Sept. 11 John Curran was acquitted 'on a charge of murder, on the grounds or insanity. [John Curran was found guilty of murdering Thomas Hogan. Mayor of Moree, and was sentenced to death, but an appeal was allowed. The defence entered a plea ot insanity. The accused giving evidence, blamed Hogan for the loss of a stadium which, he built at Moree. but for which he failed to obtain a license to hold boxmp contests, and went shearing. While he was away, Hogan, as Mayor, obtained the permission of the Chief SetTetary and broke the locks of the stadium and held a boxing contest for patriotic purposes. He demanded to see Hogan's autnorify for entering, and during an altercation the tragedy occurred.
