THE PICTURE HOUSES. MUNICIPAL.
Saturday night appears to be gaining in favour for going to pictures, and the Municipal Theatre is the popular rendezvous in Hastings. Last Saturday, the theatre was full, and a splendid pro gramme w T as presented. The popular star featured was Alice Calhoun, who had an attractive role in “The Channing Deceiver/’ the story of a young girl who was deceived into a marriage with a criminal, and in order to prolong her grandfather’s life, does not tell him of her unhappiness, but goes on deceiving him till in the end the tale is told and everything comes out the way it should. “The Leather Pushers’’ was again the centre of attraction for the sporting folk, and a good laugh was afforded by the comedy “Fifteen Minutes.’’ A Chester outing picture and Pnthe’s gazettes, together with the accompaniments by the orchestra, contributed to an enjoyable evening. COSY DE LUXE. There was the usual large audience at the Cosy on Saturday evening, and of a varied programme of pictures. “The Lane that Had No Turning,’’ starring Agnes Ayres, was easily the best. The picture was produced by Paramount, and Sir Gilbert Parker wrote the story. Miss Ayres, who created so favourable an impression in “The Sheik,’’ gives a finished interpretation. The next in quality on the bill was “Tracked to Earth,” with Frank Mayo in the leading role. This picture provided plenty of thrilling moments. The supports included a comedy, a travel picture topical and educational gazettes. The orchestra accompanied in its usual first-class style.
