BOY'S AGONY.
LEG JAMMED IN MOTOR CAR. SCENE TN LONDON STREET. (Received 11, 8.50 a.m.) London, Sept. 10. A boy aged seven years, after alighting from a tramcar in Norwood, was knocked down by a taxi-cab, his leg being caught between the chassis bar and engine drum. Unavailing efforts to release him lasted for an hour, while the boy screamed with agony. Three doctors, who were summoned, decided to amputate above the ankle. Traffic was suspended while the anaesthetic was administered. The operation was carried out behind a screen of rugs and blankets. —(A. and N.Z.)
