The scholars of the Presbyterian Sunday school with their teachers spent a day at the seaside at Napier on Saturday. A social in connection with St. Peter’s Church is to he held to-night, Monday, at which Archdeacon Simkins will address the parishioners. Thn musical programme is to be a special feature of the social. Members of thn Borough Council, in company with Messrs Davies (architect) and Stanlev (contractor'i met r.’’ the site chosen for the War Memorial on. Fridav, and selected the exact position of the structure. A start on the memorial is to be commenced to-day. Monday, and it is proposed to expedite the work.- On Saturday morning preliminary work was commenced in erecting a large shed and the town was practically paralysed to find this completed between the hours of 10 and 12 a.m. by two men. The street lamps, many of which were not in commission during the high cost of coal, are being gradually restored, making the town more attractive on dark evenings.
