MERCANTILE FIRM FINED

Murray, Roberts and Co. (Mr. Lusk) pleaded guilty at the Napier Police Court this morning to giving a receipt for an amount, over £2, without affixing the usual stamp duties. Mr. Lusk explained that the matter was a pure oversight by a relieving clerk. The man who received the receipt, instead of acting in the way a man usually would and senumg the receipt back to be fixed was apparently a high-minded gentleman and sent the receipt to the Stamp Duties Department!. Sergeant McLean said he Imd notlvuig to say. A fine of 10s with costs 7 s was inflicted.
