In respect to the proposal which was recently made that the Governor-Gen-eral should take up his residence in Dunedin for some weeks, Lord Jellicoe has now notified the civic authorities in that city that owing to the possibility of Parliament meeting for some weeks after the New Year he will be unable to accept this invitation. He hopes, however, that he and Lady Jellicoe will be able to visit Dunedin during Carnival Week in February.
Miss Dunphy, of Hastings, has returned after a holiday trip to Taupo. Miss J. Hardy (Wadestown) will leave this week for a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Mrs A. L. Warburton, of Wellington, are at present on a visit to Napier. Mr. A. Carncross, who has been on a visit to Hastings, left this morning on his return to New Plymouth. Mr. J. A. Norrie, solicitor, Takapau, with Mrs Norrie and familv, is spending a holiday of a few weeks at Day’s Bay, Wellington. Mr. L. J Hodson, pastor of the Takapau Presbyterian Church is occupying during the month of January the pulpit of the Terrace End Church, Palmerston North. The wedding was celebrated in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Kaiapoi, last Wednesday of Miss Myrtle Pearce, well known in New Zealand hockey circles, to Mr. Clarence V. Leslie. Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, who has been appointed senior magistrate at Dunedin, was formerly in practice on the Otago goldfields, and shortly after his appointment about 12 years ago went to Dunedin. Mr. H. W. Bundle, who takes the district previously in the charge of Mr. Bartholomew, was for some time a partner of the late Mr. Donald Reid, and is well known in Dunedin.
