A MUSICAL EVENT.
FOR HASTINGS AND NAPIER. A VOCAt PILGRIMAGE FROM WELLINGTON. The Wellington “Dominion” says that an interesting event in the domain of oratorio will occuh m December when, under an arrangement with the’ Hastings Choral Society, the Wellington Choral Union will augment the chorus in notable performances of “The Messiah” at Hastings and Napier. Tho suggestion, which was tho outcome of negotiations between Mr. W. E. Caldow (secretary of the Wellington Choral Union) and Mr. F. Wilkinson (secretary of the Hastings Choral Society) was put to the chorus at the last meeting of the local union, and was taken up enthusiastically, and it is expected that about 120 members will make the trip. Special railway carriages will be provided for the conveyance of the chorus, and they will all be billeted at Hastings. According to present arrangements the party will leave Wellington on the morning of Friday, December 9th, sing at Hastings that evening, leave for Napier the next morning, and sing there that evening, returning to Hastings after the performance. So far tho principals have not been definitely ■secured, but an effort is being made to obtain the services of the best talent available in order to make the double event memorable in the musical history of Hawke’s Bay.
