The Economics Board, established in the early part of the year to consider means tor reducing departmental expenditure without diminishing the efficiency of the Public Service, has as yet furnished no information to the Government, which is available for publication. The board has been at work for some months, and the heads of departments. who constitute it, have given much time to inquiries. Before the major recommendations of the Board can be given effect to they will require to be thoroughly considered by Cabinet .and it may be that Parliamentary sanction of some of the proposals will also be required. Of course, there are many directions in which economies can be introduced at once, such as in reducing the unnecessary uso of motor cars, and it is understood that much has already been done in this way. “Tutira,” the story of a New Zealand sheep station, by H.
