The altered railway time-table came into operation to-day. The new midday Napier-Palmerston train ran a little late at Hastings, and there were very few passengers travelling by it. Oranges are selling cheaper in the wholesale market at Auckland at the present time than they have been doing for several years past. The midday report to-day regarding Mr. George Nelson, who underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Royston Hospital, Hastings, is that his case is a severe one, and that he is progressing as well as can be expected. The ratepayers cf Dannevirke recently sanctioned a loan of £25,000 for the purchase of the local gasworks. The Borough Council lias been, unable to fine! the money, and the liquidator of the Gas Company has given instructions for the issue of a writ against the council.
