H.B. FRUIT-GROWERS. ASSOCIATION.

A well-attended meeting of the H.B. Fruit-Growers’ Association was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Hastings, on Saturday evening, the president (Mr. A. M. Robertson) in the chair. Mr. T. W. Attwood, president of the N.Z. I 1 iuii.-hlowers’ Federation, was also present. The chairman announced that arrangements had been made for the supply of white pine fruit case timber for the coming season. Notice of motion was given: “That only ‘financial members’ be allowed to trade with the association.” The following were appointed a committee to watch the results of experiments being carried out in Mr. E. 8. French’s orchard. Nottingly road, by the Vacuum Oil Company:—Messrs. A. M. Robertson, A. Tomlinson, J.! Hogg, E. Mellichamp. G. Taylor, andj J. King. Mr. W. H - Rice (orchard Inspector) was also asked to assist. Mr. Rice gave a report on the shipment of apples by the Hororata. A letter was received from Dr. R. J. j Tillyard (chief of the Biological Department of the Cawthron Institute), promising to supply association with one of the very first colonies of the parasite of woolly aphis sent out of Nelson.—Dr. Tillyard to be thanked, and to be invited to visit Hawke’s Bay as soon as he can make it convenient. Mr. D. Miller (Government Entymologist) is to be asked to give a lecture at tho August meeting of the association on “Red Mite,”, with a view to commencing some investigations in this district. I The chairman then introduced Mr. T. ' W. Attwood, the newly-elected president of the N.Z. Fruit-Growers’ Fed- ■ erntion. who was heartilv welcomed. Mr. Gordon Esam asked Mr. Attwood if he would give a brief review of tlm attitude of the Federation. Mr. Attwood then gave an interesting; lor+nre on “Luther Burbank and Hi« Work.” which was listened to with great attention. j At the close of his address the chairman moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Aftwood for his Ung. well-thought-out. and wnP-delivered address. This was carried hv acclamation. Six new members were elected and three nominated f°r election at the next general meeting.
