WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.
, (Own Correspondent.) , The monthly meeting of the - Waipawa County Council was held on Tuesday. March Ist. Present: Mr. L. I McKay (chair), Crs. A. Cook, J. Kerr, L. Glenny, J. Waipukurau Borough Council e acj cess to Tuki Tuki reserve, asked tor > assistance in carrying out the work. It was resolved, after discussion, that although the work did not concern the j council, except that it was within their jurisdiction, a third of the cost would be granted providing the Waipukurau . Borough and County Councils shared o the balance. i Waipukurau Borough Council in re--0 ference to proposed electric power b! board pointed out that monev would I be necessary to take the preliminary I I steps and asked for a grant which could be refunded when a power board , was established. It was resolved to , reader assistance and Cr. Kerr was . appointed the council’s representative, GENERAL. The ranger reported having impound- ’ ed 16 horses and ten cattle during the imonth. On the motion of Cr. Cook it was ■ resolved to attend immediately to a ‘ bridge at Oruwharo and one near ■ Paulsen’s, Takapau. L The clerk reported having represent--3 ed the council at the meeting of the Sanitation Board ? Takapau. and after , the financial position hud been placed b* before the meeting it was resolved to n hold another meeting to more fully disi cuss matters. > The clerk was instructed to write i Mr. Martin, counties’ solicitor, to expeb dite the proceedings against the b Howard estate for rates. The tenders of W. Robertshaw was accepted for re-building the “Brow” ’ bridge, £4,353 and Week’s bridge, ; £1,400. The question of unpaid rates on I soldier settlements was discussed. The 1 clerk stated that the Takapau riding !, had been hard hit and practically bankrupt and thought that a conference of Government and local body representatives should be called r to discuss matters. The chairman said 1 he could see nothing for it but for the r Government to reduce the value of the 1 holdings. He intended bringing the - matter before the next Land Board - meeting. , r The pay-sheet of £3.4<0, which in--1 eluded .loans account for bridges etc., - was passed for payment and the day of meetings was fixed for the first luesday in every month.
