SOLDIERS PETITION FOR ROAD. (Special to “Tribune.”) YVellington. July 22. In a petition presented by- Mr. H. M. Campbell from the leesees of the Kaiwaka soldiers' settlement, praying for the construction of "a road through the Petane block, the petitioners state that when the lands were balloted for it was stated that it was intended that such a road would be constructed hut, though they’ hail been in occupation since October 1916, the work had not been undertaken. The only access to Napier was by a road 17 miles longer than, the proposed road. The soldiers' settlement, was loaded with the cost of the road. Other settlers had agreed to pay :c special rate. Former owners would contribute £1.500 and the Hawke’s Bay’ County Council would also contribute.
